Depuis 1982, il existe le centre de secours aérien à Rheine. Au début, il était opéré par la Bundeswehr avec un hélicoptère SAR Bell UH-1D sous l'identifiant SAR 76, mais en 1998, l'ADAC Luftrettung a pris en charge la station. En raison de sa proximité avec la frontière néerlandaise, le "ange jaune" a reçu le nom de code "Christoph Europa 2". C'est le deuxième hélicoptère de secours à porter l'addition de nom "Europa". Cela vise à souligner que les hélicoptères ne s'arrêtent pas aux frontières nationales dans les zones frontalières et peuvent également soigner des patients à l'étranger. Actuellement, il y a déjà cinq hélicoptères de secours avec cet ajout dans leur nom d'appel.
