Già dal 1982 esiste il centro di soccorso aereo a Rheine. Inizialmente gestito dalla Bundeswehr con un elicottero SAR Bell UH-1D con la designazione SAR 76, nel 1998 la stazione è stata assunta dal soccorso aereo ADAC. A causa della sua vicinanza al confine olandese, il "angelo giallo" ha ricevuto il soprannome di "Christoph Europa 2". È il secondo elicottero di soccorso a cui è stato aggiunto il suffisso "Europa". Questo dovrebbe sottolineare che gli elicotteri nelle zone di confine non si fermano ai confini nazionali e forniscono assistenza anche ai pazienti nei paesi limitrofi. Nel frattempo, ci sono già cinque elicotteri di soccorso con questo suffisso nei nomi radio.
