L’observatoire « Bruno-H.-Bürgel » Sohland/Spree est situé au sud de l’arrondissement de Bautzen à Sohland sur la Spree sur le Hohberg et porte le nom de « l’astronome ouvrier » Bruno H. Bürgel.
En 1953, Friedrich Uhmann, Edmund Grundert et Heinz Klötzke de Sohland ont commencé à construire un télescope à réflexion newtonienne dans l’atelier de la société Schickanz pendant leur temps libre.
Après la découverte d’un site d’observation favorable, un bâtiment en forme de dôme pour l’instrument a été érigé gratuitement par des artisans locaux au cours d’une période de construction de trois ans. L’inauguration a eu lieu le 13 octobre 1963.
