La réserve naturelle du lac Grafensteiner est située sur le territoire de la ville de Steinfurt dans le district de Steinfurt en Rhénanie-du-Nord-Westphalie.
La zone s'étend au nord-est de la ville principale de Steinfurt. La route nationale L 578 passe à l'ouest et la L 583 au nord-est. Au nord-est s'étend la réserve naturelle de 341,7 hectares de l'Emsdettener Venn et au sud celle de 98,02 hectares du NSG Borghorster Venn.
