La localité de Doveren se situe dans la ville de Hückelhoven, dans le district de Heinsberg, à l'extrême ouest de la Rhénanie du Nord-Westphalie, sur la rive gauche du Bas-Rhin et non loin de la frontière avec les Pays-Bas. Outre le noyau du village proprement dit, autrefois appelé par les habitants « het Dörp », les deux quartiers de Doverhahn et Doverheide font également partie de cette très ancienne commune, fortement agricole encore longtemps après la Seconde Guerre mondiale.
