Le Saulcy est situé à cheval sur deux vallées d'affluents du Rabodeau : au sud celle du Bouchard, au pied du col du Hantz, mène directement au chef-lieu de canton, Senones, à 6 km ; au nord celle du Fosse permet de rejoindre Moussey. L'habitat y est très dispersé, en petits hameaux, Saint-Jean, le Village, la Parière, Quieux, le Harcholet où l'on relève l'altitude minimale. La partie montagneuse est au nord et à l'est, couverte de forêts : la Côte des Chênes, la Boulée, le Plaineux… L'altitude maximale de 910 mètres est atteinte aux confins de l'Alsace, près de la Haute Loge.
