Montségur est une commune française située dans le département de l'Ariège, en région Occitanie. Sur le plan historique et culturel, la commune fait partie du pays d'Olmes, haut lieu de la tragédie cathare alliant des paysages d'une extrême diversité. Exposée à un climat de montagne, elle est drainée par l'Hers-Vif, le ruisseau de Saint-Nicolas et par divers autres petits cours d'eau. La commune possède un patrimoine naturel remarquable : deux sites Natura 2000 , un espace protégé et trois zones naturelles d'intérêt écologique, faunistique et floristique.
