Choiseul est une commune française située dans le département de la Haute-Marne, en région Grand Est. Le village est situé à 40 km à l'est de Chaumont, préfecture de la Haute-Marne. Le village de Choiseul est le berceau de l'illustre famille de même nom.
D'après Albert Dauzat et Charles Rostaing, ce toponyme est composé du nom d'homme Latin Causius et du suffixe Gaulois -ialo . Ce même nom Causius, avec suffixe latin -iacum, a donné Choisey, Jura. .
