Monieux est le village qui joue un rôle central dans l'histoire de 'La Convertie' de Stefan Hertmans. Il décrit dans le roman que ce village s'appelait autrefois la montagne de Jupiter ou 'Mons Jovis'. Il est également mentionné que dans l'ancienne chapelle au bord du ravin, une pierre avec des inscriptions latines a été trouvée, dédiée à Mars Nabelcus, une divinité que les Romains vénéraient dans la région.
