L'abbaye tient son nom de l'évêque d'Autun, Saint-Léger, martyrisé au VIIe siècle, dont la mère s'était retirée à l'abbaye Notre-Dame de Soissons. Fondée en 1139, l'abbaye fait suite à une communauté de chanoines séculiers dont la plus ancienne mention remonte à 1070. Ne manquez pas le cloitre dans le plus pur style gothique, doté de riches décorations, ainsi que la crypte et sa chapelle.
