Kaysersberg, devait être connu avant 1100, époque de la fondation du prieuré bénédictin d'Alspach, en amont de Kaysersberg.
Ce prieuré a été transformé en couvent de Clarisses en 1282.
L'empereur Frédéric II fit construire un château à un point stratégique : à la fois sur un étranglement de la vallée
et sur une colline dominant la route vers
la Lorraine, du côté ouest des Vosges.
" Keisersperg " ou " Mont de l'Empereur ", est cité en 1227 et doit son existence au château.
En effet, ce château donna rapidement naissance à une agglomération. Il a été fortifié dès le 13ème siècle et en 1293 a été doté des mêmes privilèges que Colmar.
Kaysersberg faisait partie de la " Décapole " de 1354 jusqu'à 1648.
La population a participé à la Guerre des Paysans de 1525.
Annexée par la France avec les autres possessions impériales en Alsace.
