Les îles du Frioul sont un archipel français situé à environ 2,7 km au large du quartier d'Endoume, à Marseille. L'archipel est composé de quatre îles principales, l'ensemble atteignant 200 ha. Les Îles représentent un des 111 quartiers de Marseille rattaché au 7e arrondissement.Le mot provençal Frieu, désigne un passage maritime et donc ici le bras de mer séparant les deux îles de Pomègues et Ratonneau qui, par extension, a donné son nom à l'archipel. Il dérive du latin fretum et n'a aucun lien étymologique avec la province homonyme du Frioul en Italie dont le nom dérive du latin Forum Iulii .
