Château-Gaillard est un ancien château fort construit à la fin du XIIe siècle, aujourd'hui en ruine, dont les vestiges se dressent sur la commune française des Andelys au cœur du Vexin normand, dans le département de l'Eure, en région Normandie.Sa construction par le roi d'Angleterre et duc de Normandie, Richard Cœur de Lion, s'inscrit dans la lutte que se livrent, depuis les années 1060, les rois de France et les rois d'Angleterre, alors ducs de Normandie. La place verrouillait, avec d'autres châteaux et ouvrages fortifiés, la vallée de la Seine. Sa prise en 1204, annonce la perte de la Normandie et la fin de l'empire Plantagenêt.
