Quentovic est un ancien port de commerce du VIIe au IXe siècle. C'était un des ports de mer principaux des Carolingiens. Comme Dorestad, Quentovic fut une possession personnelle de Charlemagne.
Son nom serait formé de Quentia, nom latin de la Canche, et de vicus ou Wicus ; Vicus désignant une petite agglomération, alors que Wicus pourrait signifier baie, port selon L. Levillain qui traduit Quentovic par Port-sur-Canche).
