Le Comtat Venaissin ou, par ellipse, le Comtat, est un ancien État qui faisait partie des États pontificaux. Il a été fondé au Moyen Âge en 1274 et a été totalement dissous le 14 septembre 1791. C'est aujourd'hui une partie des départements français de la Drôme et surtout du Vaucluse qu'il recouvre presque entièrement, entre le Rhône, la Durance et le mont Ventoux, comprenant les villes de Carpentras, Vaison-la-Romaine, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue et Cavaillon.
