Sa première mention date du 7 septembre 1280 : le chevalier Thierri de Marange vend les dîmes de« Foureklingess », au chapitre de Hombourg. Dès 1302, Folkling (avec Morsbach et Gaubiving) fait partie de l'institution originale de la Seigneurie épiscopale de Hombourg- Saint-Avold. En 1770, la Pouillé des Bénédictins mentionne : Folkling, patron St-Eloi, village à deux lieues de Sarrebrück, à trois de Sarreguemines et à douze de Metz. A la veille de la révolution, la paroisse de Folkling est formée de l’église mère dédiée à Saint-Eloi et de plusieurs annexes pourvues de modestes chapelles.
