Its first mention dates from September 7, 1280: the knight Thierri de Marange sells the tithes of "Foureklingess", in the chapter of Hombourg. As early as 1302, Folkling (with Morsbach and Gaubiving) is part of the original institution of the Episcopal Seigniory of Hombourg- Saint-Avold. In 1770, the Pouillé des Bénédictins mentions: Folkling, patron saint of St-Eloi, a village two leagues from Sarrebrück, three from Sarreguemines and twelve from Metz. On the eve of the revolution, the parish of Folkling is made up of the mother church dedicated to St. Eloi and several annexes with modest chapels.
