Su primera mención data del 7 de septiembre de 1280: el caballero Thierri de Marange vende los diezmos de "Foureklingess" al cabildo de Hombourg. Desde 1302, Folkling (con Morsbach y Gaubiving) formó parte de la institución original del señorío episcopal de Hombourg-Saint-Avold. En 1770, el Pouillé de los benedictinos menciona: Folkling, patrón St-Eloi, un pueblo a dos leguas de Sarrebrück, tres de Sarreguemines y doce de Metz. En vísperas de la revolución, la parroquia de Folkling constaba de la iglesia principal dedicada a San Eloy y de varios anexos con modestas capillas.
