Au sommet d'un coteau, le Prieuré demeure le dernier témoin du passé glorieux de Châtenois.
Épouse de Gérard d'Alsace, comte de Châtenois et premier Duc de Lorraine, Hadwide de Namur fonde vers 1069, un Prieuré de Bénédictins dédié à Saint Pierre et dépendant de l'Abbaye de Toul. Plusieurs fois détruit puis reconstruit au cours de son histoire, cet imposant bâtiment formait un corps de logis avec deux ailes qui rejoignaient l'église. Aujourd'hui seule une aile subsiste. Accolée à l'église et datant de la dernière reconstruction après un incendie au XVIIIème siècle, cette partie servait encore, il y a peu, de presbytère.
