At the top of a hill, the Prieuré remains the last witness to Châtenois' glorious past.
Around 1069, Hadwide de Namur, wife of Gérard d'Alsace, Count of Châtenois and first Duke of Lorraine, founded a Benedictine priory dedicated to Saint Peter, under the auspices of the Abbey of Toul. Destroyed and rebuilt several times over the course of its history, this imposing building consisted of a main building with two wings adjoining the church. Today, only one wing remains. Adjacent to the church and dating from the last reconstruction after a fire in the 18th century, this part was until recently used as a presbytery.
