L’eau etait autrefois captée dans cet édicule ouvert en forme de maison et couvert en pierres de taille provenant sans doute des carrières dites de Charmiron ou de Futtes. Edifié dans la première moitié du XIXe siècle, ce type de petit édifice était parfois surmonté, au faîtage, d’une croix en pierre. L’eau s’écoulait ensuite dans le lavoir aujourd'hui fermé qui jouxte la fontaine.
