Il est inscrit à l’inventaire des monuments historiques.
À l’origine, les Mennonites enterrent leurs morts dans leurs jardins. Ceux de Salm choisissent un terrain à partir du xixe siècle, pour recevoir les sépultures, dont l’emplacement est désormais marqué par les stèles aux formes et décors particuliers, un simple cœur gravé. Contrairement à celui de Bourg-Bruche, ce cimetière n’est plus utilisé.
Il est situé sur une propriété privée, non accessible au public. Il est généralement visitable à l'occasion des journées du patrimoine en septembre.
