La nécropole nationale, créée en 1915, rassemble les dépouilles de soldats morts pour la France lors des combats des Hauts-de-Meuse lors de la Première Guerre mondiale.
Elle est implantée en bordure de forêt, à flanc de côte, à 800 mètres du village des Eparges.
2960 corps de soldats de l’armée française y reposent dont Robert Porchon, ami de Maurice Genevoix.
Au centre de la nécropole, un monument en pierre d’Euville a été érigé pour les soldats inconnus (852) rassemblés dans l’ossuaire.
