La necrópolis nacional, creada en 1915, reúne los restos de los soldados que murieron por Francia en los combates de la zona de Hauts-de-Meuse durante la Primera Guerra Mundial.
Está situada en el linde del bosque, en la ladera de una colina, a 800 metros del pueblo de Les Eparges.
allí reposan 2960 cuerpos de soldados del ejército francés, entre ellos el de Robert Porchon, amigo de Maurice Genevoix.
En el centro de la necrópolis se ha erigido un monumento en piedra de Euville a los soldados desconocidos (852) reunidos en el osario.
