Elle fut construite en 1846, puis agrandie en 1876. En 1895 elle fut équipée d’un orgue à transmission mécanique Wetzel. Décorée d’un ensemble de fresques remarquables de l'artiste Achille Metzger en 1922, elle est la seule synagogue en Alsace à n’avoir pas été profanée par les nazis.
