Apparu suite à un affaissement minier dans les années 80, l'étang vit et fait vivre à présent tout un écosystème. Retiré au milieu de la nature, une faune et flore spécifique s'y sont développées au fil des ans. Une balade bucolique le long de l'étang mène à un observatoire à oiseaux idéal pour les amoureux de la nature et de la photographie. La pêche y est autorisée sous certaines conditions sous surveillance de l'AAPPMA l'Ablette de Creutzwald.
