De vijver ontstond na een mijnverzakking in de jaren 80, en herbergt nu een heel ecosysteem. Afgezonderd midden in de natuur hebben zich daar in de loop der jaren een specifieke fauna en flora ontwikkeld. Een bucolische wandeling langs de vijver leidt naar een vogelobservatorium, ideaal voor natuurliefhebbers en fotografen. Vissen is onder bepaalde voorwaarden toegestaan onder toezicht van de AAPPMA l'Ablette de Creutzwald.
