Un incendie ravagea la grange d'un fermier. Désespéré, il passa un pacte avec Satan : le bâtiment serait reconstruit avant l'aube en échange de son âme. Pris de remords, le fermier avoua tout à sa femme, qui eut l'idée de faire chanter le coq avant le lever du jour. Pris de panique, Satan s'enfuit. Mais le lendemain, fou de rage en découvrant la supercherie, le Démon jeta l'une des pierres de la grange dans le champ voisin...où elle se trouve encore aujourd'hui.
