L'étang, géré par la société de pêche locale, est un véritable havre de tranquillité à vocation piscicole. Son nom intriguant pourrait venir d'une confusion entre "fée" et "fie", qui signifie "épicéa" en patois vosgien, faisant écho aux forêts denses qui entourent cet espace naturel. Sur ses rives, le sol granitique du Valtin crée des conditions idéales pour le développement d’un tapis d’herbes fines, notamment la Canche flexueuse, qui apporte une touche de magie au paysage. Ce cadre féerique évolue plus loin en une lande à Callune et Myrtille, renforçant l'atmosphère sauvage et préservée du site.
