De vijver wordt beheerd door de plaatselijke visclub en is een oase van rust voor de visteelt. De intrigerende naam is misschien afkomstig van een verwarring tussen "fée" en "fie", wat "spar" betekent in het Vogezen dialect, een verwijzing naar de dichte bossen die dit natuurgebied omringen. Op de oevers creëert de granietbodem van de Valtin ideale omstandigheden voor de ontwikkeling van een tapijt van fijne grassen, in het bijzonder de buigzame Canche, die een vleugje magie aan het landschap toevoegt. Deze betoverende omgeving evolueert verder in een veengebied van Callune en Myrtille, wat de wilde en ongerepte sfeer van de site versterkt.
