Ce cinéma multiplexe de 12 salles, classé art et essai, est situé au centre de Charleville-Mézières, au coeur de la ZAC Montjoly.
Le projet a été conçu par l'architecte Jacques Freudenthal . Freudenthal s'est inspiré du chef-d'œuvre cinématographique « Metropolis » , inscrit sur la liste du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO, et le nom du cinéma est basé sur cette inspiration.
Le multiplexe a été achevé en 2004 et a coûté 7 millions d'euros.
