Glastonbury est un lieu sacré important et un site de pèlerinage tant pour les chrétiens que pour les adorateurs des religions de la nature. Selon la tradition, c'est ici que le christianisme celtique aurait vu le jour après que Joseph d'Arimathie s'y soit établi. Il existe également des références sur place au Saint Graal et à la légende du roi Arthur. Glastonbury a probablement été habité dès la pré-histoire.
