Thornton Rust est un village et une paroisse civile dans le district de Richmondshire dans le North Yorkshire, en Angleterre. Il est situé dans les Yorkshire Dales, à environ 2 miles à l'ouest d'Aysgarth, en hauteur sur la rive sud de la rivière Ure dans Wensleydale.
Le village est mentionné dans le Domesday Book de 1086 sous le nom de Toreton. Au moment de l'invasion normande, le manoir appartenait à Thor, mais fut ensuite accordé au comte Alan de Bretagne. Un seigneurie intermédiaire était détenue ici par Sybil de Thornton en 1286, mais le principal locataire du manoir était Robert de Tateshall, qui était également seigneur du manoir de Thorlaby. La descendance du manoir de Thornton Rust suivait celle de Thoralby jusqu'au 19ème siècle.
