La grande carte polonaise à Eddleston a été construite dans les années 1970 en reconnaissance de l'hospitalité écossaise envers les soldats polonais pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Un modèle tridimensionnel de la carte - développé par Historic Environment Scotland - a été lancé en même temps. L'idée du projet original vient apparemment de Jan Tomasik, propriétaire de l'hôtel de 1969 à 1977. Il s'est installé en Écosse après la guerre et a développé son concept pour la carte avec la contribution de son ancien commandant, le général Stanislaw Maczek. La carte se trouve dans une piscine ovale d'environ 160 pieds (50 m) de large et de 5 pieds (1,5 m) de profondeur avec de l'eau recréant des rivières, des lacs et des mers.
