Le Black Brook dans le Lancashire prend sa source au Great Hill dans les West Pennine Moors. L'eau est acide en raison d'un niveau élevé de tourbe dans les terres élevées près de Round Loaf, ce qui donne au ruisseau sa couleur brune. Le jeune fleuve était connu sous le nom de Warth Brook dans l'ancien Heapey. Un ruisseau affluant également appelé Black Brook rejoint près de Kittiwake Road - ce cours d'eau court et faible commence à Eagle Tower. Le ruisseau articulé alimente le réservoir d'Anglezarke et rejoint la rivière Yarrow dans la plaine de Chorley au pont de Yarrow. L'ensemble du cours du Black Brook et de la rivière Yarrow se trouve dans Chorley et ses villages.
