Le pas de Calais est un détroit de la Manche, située à l'extrémité orientale de cette dernière et donc limitrophe de la mer du Nord. Il sépare la Grande-Bretagne de l'Europe continentale . Il a donné son nom au département du Pas-de-Calais .
Avec le détroit de Malacca, il est l'un des détroits maritimes les plus fréquentés du Monde par la marine marchande, avec un trafic d'environ 400 navires par jour qui transitent entre Manche et mer du Nord, étant la principale voie d'accès vers les ports du range nord-européen depuis l’Atlantique, mais il est aussi l'un des plus traversé par le transport maritime de passagers entre l'Europe continentale et la Grande Bretagne . Environ 25 % du trafic mondial de marine marchande et de passagers emprunte ce détroit selon le CROSS.
