Lors d'une interview avec Sophia Loren (New York Times), lorsqu'on lui a demandé quel était son lieu de tournage préféré, Loren a cité l'île en disant : "J'ai fait un film... en Grèce, à Hydra, l'un des plus beaux endroits du monde. Je m'en souviens vraiment avec une grande, grande joie. Parce que, pour moi, c'était un moment de début dans le cinéma américain et je commençais ma romance avec mon mari, et donc je suis attachée aussi à ce que j'ai découvert chez mon mari. C'était un moment magnifique et euphorique pour moi. Je n'oublierai jamais Hydra." Sophia Loren a joué Phaedra ici, la fille d'un plongeur de spongiaires : "Boy on a Dolphin" sort sur les écrans en 1957. L'été suivant, Hydra commence à recevoir des milliers de touristes.
