Le gouffre de Rintomos est l'un des plus grands canyons de Mani. Le gouffre est également décrit par Sir Patrick Leigh Fermor dans son livre classique de randonnée "Mani : Voyages dans le Péloponnèse méridional". Il a traversé ce gouffre après avoir pris un jeep de Sparte à Anavryti. De là, lui et son groupe ont marché, sans mulets ni autres porteurs de bagages, jusqu'au bassin versant à Portes, puis ont traversé la montagne. Dans leur descente, ils ont suivi le gouffre de Rintomos et ont émergé après de grands efforts pour atteindre la civilisation à Kampos.
