Cervo est une petite ville ancienne et une commune, construite sur le sommet d'une colline le long de la Riviera italienne dans la province d'Imperia. Elle compte environ 1 200 habitants.
L'établissement a commencé comme un manoir romain le long de la Via Julia Augusta. S'étendant lentement, il est devenu, à l'époque médiévale, un fief des marquis Clavesana, qui étaient sujets de la République de Gênes, à laquelle Cervo a toujours été fidèle. Le caractère actuel de Cervo date de cette époque : des tours et des remparts du 16ème siècle protègent encore le village.
