Atella est une commune italienne d'environ 3 800 habitants, située dans la province de Potenza, dans la région Basilicate en Italie méridionale.
Atella s'élève à 512 m au-dessus du niveau de la mer dans le cœur de la vallée de Vitalba, une vaste zone principalement plate qui s'étend de Lagopesole au Mont Vultur dans la partie nord de la Basilicate, à la frontière avec la partie orientale de la province d'Avellino. Elle est limitrophe avec les communes de : Rionero in Vulture , Filiano et Ripacandida , Ruvo del Monte , San Fele , Bella , Calitri et Avigliano . Elle est à 46 km de distance de Potenza et 130 km de l'autre capitale de la province lucanienne, Matera.
