Syracuse est la capitale de la province italienne de Syracuse située sur la côte, dans le sud-est de la Sicile.
Syracusee est restée la capitale de l'île pendant toute l'ère romaine. Cicéron au Ier siècle av. J.-C. l'a présentée comme la plus grande et la plus belle des villes grecques de la Magna Graecia .
