Ens était le nom de la partie sud de l'ancienne île de Schokland avec les deux anciennes terpes De Zuidert et Middelbuurt.
Ens relevait de la province d'Overijssel. Cela contrastait avec la moitié nord de l'île, avec la terpe Emmeloord, qui faisait partie de la région de Hollande.
