Au sud de Hilversum, des dizaines de fermes étaient en activité depuis la fin du 19ème siècle jusqu'aux années 1970. Les agriculteurs laissaient leurs animaux paître dans les vastes prairies entre Hilversum et Loosdrecht. Maintenant, seule une ferme est encore en fonction. Une partie de ces prairies a vu la création en 1936 du parc de caravanes Egelshoek. Une autre grande partie est devenue l'aérodrome.
