La tour d'eau de Sint Jansklooster a été construite en 1931-1932 par la société des eaux de Waterleiding Maatschappij Overijssel. La tour d'eau a une hauteur de 45,7 mètres et un réservoir d'eau de 400 m³. La tour est, en termes de conception, semblable aux tours d'eau de Steenwijkerwold et Raalte. En 2011, la tour a été transférée par la société des eaux Vitens à l'organisation à but non lucratif BOEi. Le cabinet d'architectes Zecc a élaboré un plan pour restaurer la tour et la réaffecter en tour d'observation. Depuis quatre fenêtres, le visiteur peut contempler Steenwijk, Emmeloord, Zwolle et Meppel. Le plan est exécuté par l'entreprise de construction Jurriëns Noord.
