À l'origine, le moulin a été construit en 1870 à Zuidveen en tant que moulin à drainage. En 1959, le petit moulin hors d'usage a été déplacé à Wapenveld par le directeur de l'époque de l'IJsselcentrale. Il a fait équiper le moulin d'un générateur pour produire de l'électricité. Actuellement, le propriétaire privé fait fonctionner régulièrement le moulin. Il y a des projets pour redonner au moulin ailleurs sa fonction d'origine de moulin à drainage.
