Santpoort est un village de la commune de Velsen, dans la région d'IJmond, dans la province de Hollande-Septentrionale. Il se compose actuellement des noyaux séparés de Santpoort-Nord et Santpoort-Sud. En 2021, le nombre d'habitants était de 10.610, dont 7.240 à Santpoort-Nord et 3.370 à Santpoort-Sud. Le nom Santpoort est une déformation de Sancta Porta, latin pour porte sacrée, car au Moyen Âge, des pèlerins empruntaient cette région marécageuse difficilement accessible pour se rendre vers le nord, en direction de lieux religieusement importants comme Beverwijk, où Sainte Agathe était vénérée, Egmond, où se trouvait une importante abbaye, Heiloo, qui reste encore aujourd'hui un lieu de pèlerinage marial, ainsi qu'Alkmaar et Bergen, où des miracles s'étaient produits. Le nom était autrefois écrit Zandpoort.
