Depuis 1921, il est surtout connu pour son hôpital spécialisé dans le diagnostic et le traitement des patients atteints de maladies pulmonaires et allergiques, désormais connu sous le nom de Clinique universitaire de Golnik des maladies pulmonaires et allergiques. Son emplacement, de bonnes conditions d'humidité et un grand nombre de jours ensoleillés par an ont contribué à en faire un centre de santé de premier plan dans la région. Un château du XVIe siècle fait partie du complexe hospitalier et est entouré d'un parc conçu par l'architecte Ivan Vurnik.
