La Galicie est une province de l'empire d'Autriche formée en 1772 à partir des territoires polonais annexés lors du premier partage de la Pologne. D’une superficie d’environ 78 000 km2, elle est restée autrichienne jusqu'à la fin de la Première Guerre mondiale. Elle est actuellement répartie entre la Pologne pour sa partie ouest autour de Cracovie, et l’Ukraine pour sa partie est autour de Lviv.
Toutefois, le nom de Galicie existait avant 1772, désignant des territoires situés dans la région du Dniestr, autour de la ville de Halytch, et au Moyen Âge, il a existé une principauté de Galicie-Volhynie.
