La Space Needle est une tour futuriste construite à Seattle pour l'exposition universelle de 1962. Au sommet de cet ouvrage se trouve une plate-forme à l'allure de soucoupe volante qui l'a rendu populaire.
Depuis la plate-forme d'observation qui domine la ville, on peut apercevoir la péninsule Olympique, la chaîne des Cascades et le mont Rainier. La Space Needle qui culmine à 184,4 mètres est conçue pour résister à des vents de 360 km/h, ainsi qu'aux tremblements de terre, comme celui de 1965 qui atteignit une amplitude de 6,5 sur l'échelle de Richter.
