La mission San Diego de Alcalá fut fondée le 16 juillet 1769 par le Père Junípero Serra près de ce qui est l'actuelle ville de San Diego, en Californie. Ce fut la première d'une série de 21 missions en Haute-Californie, et on la désigne aujourd'hui sous le nom de « Mère des Missions d'Alta California » et « Première église de Californie » . Elle était située dans le Premier District Militaire et nommé en l'honneur de Didacus d'Alcalá.
